Get into the Spring 2012

I got to attend MAGIC this year, which was an excellent experience. Lots of networking opportunities, meet cool new industry people, and got to check out the new looks for Fall 2011. My favorite part of the trip was getting to check out WGSN's Trend Forecasting seminar. In this seminar we took a look at trends for Spring 2012! Yup that's right a whole year in advance. So if you're scared for the apocalypse of 2012, here's a recap of the seminar so at least you can go out in style!

Military Madness

Who knew that boots and clothing issued by the government would become so fashionable? The military inspired trend has been around for many seasons but the current trend that I have been seeing everywhere is the military inspired boot. Military boots are great for the current Spring season, but they can translate into looks for Fall also. These types of boots are the best of  the Androgynous, mixing masculine and feminine elements. Lace up military boots are complimented by patterned tights worn with dresses, skirts and shorts and well as look very stylish with skinny jeans tucked into them.

These are a few examples of how I have seen military inspired boots worn at Cal State Long Beach:

I have also seen this trend in magazines and on various celeberties also.

Bell those Bottoms

Have no fear skinny jeans are still here however classic 1970s bell bottoms are  blooming all over runways and trickling its way down  to the streets.  This  classic bell bottom is a little bit modified compared to the ones that were popular through out the late nineties and early two thousands. It is high waisted, loose at the knee , and has a hem that is as wide as your foot. Think back to Mila Kunis in that 70s show as the rambunctious Jackie.  Not only are the bell bottoms flattering they work for a  variety of occasions  it can be done in a suit, casual wear, and everything in between.I love that they are loose and comfy yet extremely seductive and sexy. Bell bottoms are also age appropriate for any age anything from 13 to 55 this flirty fun look hibernates but never truly dies. These bell bottoms are a classic piece worth investing in due to its universal nature. It will save you when in doubt on those awful days when you feel like you have nothing to wear.

Peace out

Cropped Perfection

Get ready for the crunches people the cropped look is all the rage this season. Whether it be cropped tanks, tees or sweaters, showing the mid-drift is the hottest look out right now. Taking it back to the vintage look the cropped shirts can be traced all the way back to the 80's and now that the look is resurfacing get ready to raid your mom's closet to see what crazy tops you can find that she wore back in her hay days. The cropped tops paired with a hot pair of low waisted dark denim and heels gives the illusion of a long feminine figure that is guaranteed to make any boy stop and stare. Celebrities such as Zoe Kravits, Mischa Barton, Daisy Lowe and Kate Bosworth were all spotted rockin’ the cropped look gaining attention by the consumers this bandwagon has already left the station. So create your own mania grab a cropped top and be ready to start the spring season in style. (Images courtesy of elleuk.com)

Kate Bosworth takes the cropped look in a more conservative direction. A nude cropped tee paired with a gray tank under plays it safe and shows the perfect example of how you can still be trendy if you aren't on the extremest side of fashion. Her look completed with a light wash pair of jeggings and matching wedges still keep it classy and fun at the same time.
Zoe Kravits cropped look is a little more rocker chic. The girly fringe, high wasted jeans cuffed to the ankle, and matching black boots has a east coast rock from the 70's. The satin black blazer on top adds a more clean cut look which makes you ready for a night out on the town rather than a night back stage.

Mischa Barton pairs her cropped tee with a studded vest and high waisted skirt. With matching studded peep toe booties Mischa's look is a little more feminine, giving cropped perfection to the term "showing some skin"!

Daisy Lowe rocks the cropped look in a grunge form. With bleached ripped denim shorts and calf length black boots she pulls together to dirty 90's look we all knew so well, thanks to Nirvana.
